Elliott Holt: Biography

Elliott Holt

Elliott Holt was a former copywriter turned into an author. Born and raised in Washington D.C., Elliott studied MFA at Brooklyn College. She won the Himan Brown award from her college for exhibiting her talent in writing.

Having started her career as a copywriter, Elliott worked at various advertising agencies in Moscow, London, Paris and New York before concentrating on writing. ‘You are One of Them’ was the first novel written by Elliott which brought her huge fame. This book was listed for the Flaherty Dunnan first novel prize from the centre for Fiction and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle’s inaugural John Leonard Award for a first book.

Elliott’s writing has also appeared in several magazines such as New York Times, Guernica, Kenyon Review Online, the Pushcart Prize and many more. Elliott’s works were highly appreciated and honoured. She won several fellowships like the one from Sewanee Writer’s conference, the Tin House Summer Writer’s Workshop and The MacDowell Colony and Yaddo.

In addition to all these, Elliott Holt won the Pushcart Prize and was a runner up of the 2011 PEN Emerging Writers Award. Elliott was also named as, ‘one of the Future Writing Stars in New York’s Writing Program’ by New York Magazine.
