Victoria Aveyard: Biography
Victoria Aveyard is the author of the #1 New York Times Bestseller, Red Queen, a YA fantasy novel. As noted in USA Today, Red Queen is “a sizzling, imaginative thriller, where romance and revolution collide, where power and justice duel. Action-packed. Unputdownable.” Red Queen has been sold in over twenty five countries worldwide, and was selected as an Indies Introduce New Voices novel for Winter/Spring 2015. A sequel, Glass Sword, is due out in February of 2016. Victoria also writes feature screenplays, including Eternal, which was published in January of 2014.
As a child from East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, Victoria Aveyard enjoying reading stories of the Greek Gods, among other things, and was a fan of Edith Hamilton at the young age of eight. She attended the University of Southern California, where she graduated with a BFA in screenwriting. After a “terrifying, unemployed” year after college, she decided to try writing a novel, and produced Red Queen.
Victoria Aveyard currently splits her time between her hometown and Los Angeles. She is an avid reader and enjoys numerous genres, including YA, Fantasy, Historical, Adventure, and Apocalyptic. As she says, “if people are dying, I’m buying.” Those who influence her creative work include JRR Tolkien, George RR Martin, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and Peter Jackson. She also draws inspiration from history and myth. She claims that her proudest moments were when she rode horseback in the mountains of Montana and found her way from London to Edinburgh without GPS.
